I've Returned to my blog.

I'm back. It's been too long and, frankly, I have been lazy.

I define "lazy" as not doing what you know you should when you know you should.

So, with apologies and humility, I have returned.

Update: I am now 11 years into retirement and am feeling pretty good about my use of this flexible time I earned. At least it feels well spent. I'm growing in my skills and dealing with many new challenges every day.

It's a great time to be alive even though the society we live in abounds with naysayers, fault-finders and, frankly, a negative stream of complaining and whining like I've never seen before.

I believe one of the great gifts God gave to His creation is adaptability. And to prove it to us, He allows challenges and obstacles in our paths so we may grow, learn and improve. There is purpose in our "being".

happy with my Love

Since retirement I have

  • written and arranged 20+ songs
  • I've discovered I love textiles and am mostly fond of yarn and what it becomes; Some might call me a "yarnie".
  • I've discovered my leadership abilities are stronger than I knew and have used them to organize and direct Vacation Bible School, Bible studies, community boards and I'm now looking for a new venture ... tutoring?
  • I've reconnected and discovered students who have become friends
  • and I could go on and on ... which I'm prone to do so I shall stop there.
I'm not bragging. It's simply a fact but I am grateful I've not shelved myself, though I think sometimes the world around me would like to shelve me. I'm just too stubborn to knuckle.

I do believe that's something retirement becomes for some of us. So here's some unsolicited advice – if you have no plans to retire to, don't do it. If you've worked more than five years at something, saved like crazy to live as you desire, and are planning to retire ... Don't. Waste. That. You've invested too much time toward now to waste it by not applying your free time constructively and only you can define what is constructive.

For me it is pouring my life into others to the best of my ability and to their benefit.

So watch out world...I'm ba-a-a-a-ck!
